Florrie is a Ceramic and Textile Artist with a background in Activism.
She makes sculptural and functional pottery rooted in drawing, mark-making and language, with a focus on surface design that celebrates pattern, texture and experimentation.
She describes her creative process as a musical call and response between her hands (body), the clay (material) and her ideas (belief). She layers and blends thrown, handbuilt and decorative techniques as she explores the possibilities of what the clay is and can become.
She completed a degree in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art where she first had the opportunity to experiment with ceramics. Driven to deepen her technical knowledge she started taking regular classes in 2022. Ceramics has since become an important part of her life, working as a ceramic technician and tutor at Community Clay Studio, as well as creating from her shared studio in Ancoats, Manchester.
Florrie believes craft and the act of making art collaboratively to be catalysts for healing, and a way to create space for discussion and challenging the status-quo of our fast paced modern world. In particular working with the earth enables our human need for slowness, sustainability and connectedness with the ground
